    Don't crash due to vortex ring - READ THIS !!!

    On all Phantom forums you will see reports that people have crashed their quad when they descend in a hover. This is due to the Vortex Ring. For a detailed description on what is happening and how to avoid a crash watch Pull_Up's video below.

    If your the type of person who hates video instruction this is how you save your quad.

    1. Avoid descending in the hover.
    2. If you must go very slowly.
    3. If your quad starts to shake and drop DO THE FOLLOWING
    4. Stop applying full power - it makes it worse leave it in the hover position
    5. Immediately push the right stick forwards to get the quad moving
    6. Once its recovered apply power as needed.

    If you do 4 - 6 you will save it.

    I fly Phantom 2 with Gopro 3 Black, Zenmuse, Imersion RC600, Black Pearl Monitor.

    I like the bit before the video link... Is that a subtle hint that I sometimes have a tendency to waffle on a bit?!

    No not at all. I thought I would put that as its probably the most important tip you can ever give someone flying these things. Other than don't fly it through the White house windows of course.

    Ok then. But I do have a tendency to waffle on a bit, I know.

    Although I realise the point of the original post is how to recover from the VRS I think you could add one sentence which should avoid it happening in the first place. This can (imo) be summed up in just a few words such as ;

    "Always descend with lateral motion into the wind"

    Absolutely right, although sometimes keeping track of wind direction in relation to craft orientation can be tricky, especially if you've only got a few hours under your belt.

    Yes, agree. I was going to say that the best way is to flip into ATTI for a moment just to confirm that the wind aloft is the same as that at the ground but that is not of much use to newbies who are flying 'non NAZA'. That also does not address your point about knowing your orientation anyway. The safest solution on balance for novices would be just to go slow !

    Anyway, I am just repeating everything that has been posted again and again on the other place. Have to remember that this site is supposed to be different
